The impact of AI on job responsibilities in Australia
As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to advance and impact various industries, workers across Australia are voicing their opinions on how the changes might affect their job responsibilities.
The ADPR® People at Work 2025: A Global Workforce View survey revealed that only 11% of Australian workers strongly believe AI will positively impact their roles in the coming year. This is lower than the figures seen across the Asia-Pacific (16%) and globally (17%).
Attitudes to AI vary with job category and age
This view changes as job categories do. Knowledge workers who can use their expertise for creative solutions are more than twice as likely to express optimism about AI's impact as skilled task or cycle workers. In fact, 18% of knowledge workers think AI’s influence will be beneficial.
However, some workers are clearly worried about AI. The report shows that 9% of Australians fear AI could replace their jobs, while another 10% are uncertain about how these technologies will shape their work in the future.
Older workers seem least optimistic about AI's impacts. Only 4% of people aged 55 and above strongly agree that AI will positively influence their responsibilities.
Clear communication is key
As businesses increasingly integrate AI tools to enhance productivity and efficiency, it’s important employers address these concerns. By understanding these diverse perspectives on AI's potential, they can help shape a more optimistic future for the workforce in Australia.
